Jensen Hunt Design provided structural design services for the refurbishment of New Cobham House.
Located in the St Paul’s Conservation Area, this 1980s purpose-built office building is undergoing a major programme of structural-led refurbishment to enhance its usability and appeal. The reinforced concrete frame – with ribbed slabs, downstand beams, RC columns and lift core – provides a robust base for a series of interventions designed to modernise the building.
The works focus on key structural alterations, including:
Creating a new main entrance by forming a façade opening and constructing a bridge across the basement lightwell. Refurbishing and reconfiguring the existing “bell tower” with new accommodation and a connecting stair between the 5th and 6th floors.
Undertaking structural modifications to enable a revised internal layout and improved entrance sequence.
Concrete repairs and exposure of the structural soffits as part of the CAT A refurbishment.
Upgrading below-ground drainage to suit the new configuration.
These interventions transform the existing frame to accommodate modern office requirements, while retaining the building’s core structure and character.
